ONOMOTION: Benjamin Federmann becomes new Chief Innovation Officer
E-cargo bike manufacturer aims to establish logistics-as-a-service
Benjamin Federmann has been the new Chief Innovation Officer at ONOMOTION GmbH since September 1. At the Berlin-based provider of e-cargobikes, the business administration graduate is to establish the new Logistics-as-a-Service (LaaS) business segment for transport on the “last mile”. With the newly created position, ONOMOTION intends to further develop the company and, in addition to selling e-cargobikes, also offer a comprehensive mobility service for various logistics service providers and shippers. This is made possible by the modular system of standardized containers and the e-cargobike ONO in conjunction with suitable city logistics hubs. Federmann will present the new business field at Ecosummit, a conference for sustainable start-ups, on September 8, 2021 in Berlin. “With Benjamin Federmann, we can take the next step in our company’s development and face the increasingly complex challenges of the market,” says ONOMOTION CEO Beres Seelbach.
Since its founding in 2016, ONOMOTION has experienced rapid development from a start-up to an established provider of e-cargobikes. The further development into a comprehensive mobility service provider is now the logical and consistent step to make urban mobility more sustainable and emission-free. Federmann founded Doks Innovation GmbH in Kassel together with partners in 2017. The company specializes in drone-based inventory management in warehouses. After several years as managing director, he is now moving from the air to the road. However, the 37-year-old’s goal remains the same: the transport specialist wants to help logistics companies, CEP service providers, online grocery retailers or craft businesses make their supply chains more efficient. “We want goods for city logistics to be transported in a standardized container on the middle and last mile and no longer have to be unloaded and reloaded several times,” explains Federmann.
Standardized containers for city logistics make transport alternatives possible
The standardized, compact and rollable city containers ensure efficient transport from a depot on the edge of the stand to a city hub. From there, ONO then takes over the dockable containers for fine distribution to the recipients. “Global trade has shown for decades that the distribution of freight traffic across several modes of transport has potential. Standardized containers have made this possible and accelerated it. I am convinced that ONO will also succeed in this,” says Federmann.
